When we think of sharks as antagonists in cinema, it’s inevitable to evoke images of sunny beaches and screams among the waves. However, Trapped in the Abyss, the recent thriller available on Amazon Prime Video, breaks that mold to offer a claustrophobic and tension-filled experience in a completely different setting: a sunken plane in the vast Pacific Ocean.

This film directed by Claudio Fäh combines the struggle for survival with an incessant threat: the sharks, lurking as guardians of an abyss that seems endless. The plot begins with a routine Vista Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Los Cabos. However, the journey turns into a nightmare when a flock of birds causes a catastrophic failure, resulting in the plane crashing in the middle of the ocean.

Series B for fans

Director Claudio Fäh builds a suffocating atmosphere that keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat. The ocean is not only a setting of danger but also a character in itself: immense, dark, and full of threats. Undoubtedly, it is a proposal for those who keep watching Sharknado on loop and have not yet gotten over the original Jaws by Steven Spielberg.
